resources and training opportunities, including the following recorded
webinars.
- Building Your Data Toolbox: Current Data Tools and How to Use Them
On Demand I 6/1/2017 I Recorded Webinar
To make improvements in population health one must determine what needs to be improved, measure that improvement in a way that is meaningful and valid, and make that data available and usable to those beyond one’s own sector. Knowing what data to collect, as well as how to access or collect that data, is critical. This recorded webinar addresses both the context for and the importance of data in population health improvement, and ways to approach data interoperability. The webinar also highlights tools and resources to facilitate meaningful data collection and exchange, such as the Digital Bridge, Health Landscape, and the ABFM PRIME Registry Population Health Assessment Tool. - Moving Upstream: Health Care's Response to the Social Determinants of Health
On Demand I 6/1/2017 I Recorded Webinar
Much of the health care sector has struggled to determine how to address social determinants of health (SDH). There are many barriers that have hindered such efforts, and two obstacles in particular lack of awareness and organizational silos may be the most disruptive of all. It is intimidating not knowing how to address SDH and not knowing if anyone else in your community is working on these issues. Silos that impede critical communication and collaboration that would enable the health care sector to properly address SDH further compound this issue. In addition to describing what organizations can do to address these obstacles, this recorded webinar also highlights examples of Houston/Harris County's local public health and health care's continuing efforts to overcome barriers and effectively address social determinants of health. - Taking Collaborations to Scale to Improve Population Health
On Demand I 6/1/2017 I Recorded Webinar
Spread and scale happen at the speed of trust. While there are technical and strategic components that are important to consider when looking for ways to take a cross-sector collaboration to scale, establishing a solid foundation for collaboration based on relationship and trust is critical. This recorded webinar sets context for participant engagement by highlighting principles of scaling through a series of short presentations demonstrating different approaches to achieving spread and scale. Presenters illustrate these principles using examples from their personal and professional experiences, including 100 Million Healthier Lives and 6|18 Initiative. Watch webinar
- Validating and Promoting Your Program’s Success Using Return on Investment (ROI) and Other Evaluation Methods
On Demand I 6/1/2017 I Recorded Webinar
You know what you are doing is making a difference, but how do you measure and show your successes? Which way should you go? Impact evaluation? Process measures? Return on Investment (ROI) analysis? This recorded webinar provides the tools needed to first conceptualize, then select and carry out the evaluation best suited to one’s program. The process for defining outputs and outcomes is explained, along with developing appropriate measures that give one the best chance for validating your success. ASTHO's web-based ROI tool is explored and recent examples of its use are highlighted. Strategies for successfully dissemination are also discussed. Watch webinar

Highlighting
emerging technologies and ingenuity, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Pioneering Ideas Podcast features projects linking public health
informatics with practice. In this episode entitled " Every Breath Counts,"
a team from Louisville, Kentucky designs an innovative approach where
patients use GPS-enabled inhalers that allow scientists to pinpoint the
geographic location of the triggers of asthma flare-ups. Pairing this
data with other sources, including traffic patterns and air quality,
this program is an example of public health informatics, public health
policy, and community collaboration.
